Some Interesting Tidbits About Acupuncture and Chinese Moxibustion

What is Moxibustion and Acupuncture?

Acupuncture treatment can have two operative components. The first is a treatment procedure using needles and the second is treatment using fire. Both these components are considered relevant and correlative for curing health conditions.

Therefore, we can imply that acupuncture moxibustion treatment refers to a condition being cured with fire which pretty much refers to the Jiu in Shen Jiu (acupuncture’s Chinese name).

Moxibustion and acupuncture are both incredibly important inventions of the Chinese people. Ancient texts refer to legends as to how moxibustion and acupuncture originated. One of these legends is Fu Hsi’s creation of acupuncture using stone needles, and Wang Di’s invention of moxibustion and acupuncture.

Both Orlando Chinese moxibustion and acupuncture’s origin can be traced as far back as the Neolithic age.

The legend told that a housewife who was cooking discovered alleviation from her pain while standing near the fire at the stove. This has slowly evolved and medicinal plants were later added to improve the health and fume the body.

Besides acupuncture, two of the most commonly used forms of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and cupping and moxibustion with moxa cone. The basic principle is to put fire in a glass jar and place it over the body where it “cup”s the body. The heat from the jar forces the air out of the jar causing a suction effect on the jar to the body. The effects are the stimulation of blood that has stagnated and the “massage” of the internal organs of the patient.

Moxibustion and acupuncture should be performed in a precise manner and should target the important meridians and acupoints of the body to generate the desired health benefits. Mashed garlic and ginger can be included in the medicinal herbs when necessary.

The glass jar is usually left in place on the body for around 15 – 20 minutes, and treatments have to be done over a specific amount of time.

Aside from the traditional way of using acupuncture and Chinese moxibustion, people have now made some modifications to this procedure. Nowadays, some of the techniques used besides acupuncture and moxibustion include acupoint magneto-therapy, acupoint injection, electronic needle moxibustion, and microwave needle moxibustion among others.
