Acupuncture Helps Relieve Bronchitis Symptoms

When your bronchi (the air pathways between the lungs and trachea) become inflamed, you have a condition known as bronchitis. Symptoms of bronchitis include tightness in the chest, wheezing, fatigue, mild fever and productive or dry cough.  Bronchitis can have two forms: Acute Bronchitis, a condition that often comes along a viral infection (influenza or a cold), and Chronic Bronchitis, which causes a cough that may last for a number of weeks or even years.  Continued exposure to irritants such as asbestos or insulation, cigarette smoke or pollution can lead to chronic bronchitis.

Most cases of acute bronchitis are usually the result of a viral infection. Usually this sickness resolves by itself in a number of days. A for more serious health problem is chronic bronchitis since it constricts the flow of air into the lungs leading to overabundance of sputum, wheezing and shortness of breath. Stopping smoking and staying away from irritants have been shown to improve chronic bronchitis symptoms.

If you want an effective treatment for acute bronchitis and other forms of it (asthma, allergies and colds), I recommend acupuncture. Lingering and chronic respiratory conditions can be treated with acupuncture. The patient’s medical history and physical exam includes a tongue and pulse exam.  Each patient’s condition is unique, and based on the patient’s symptoms and constitution the proper acupuncture points will be treated. Usually meridians corresponding to the upper back, abdomen, chest and lung are included for treatment. Meridian points on the ear may be included as well since points exist on that organ, which are associated with respiratory functions. According to acupuncture theory, the meridian corresponding to the Kidney goes up the front of the chest to the bronchial region and goes in there. The kidney and the lung have a deep energy loop between them, so the back and front central meridian points need be addressed to help clear that loop. Acupuncture is actually a gentle, painless and effective therapy. Fear, anger, sadness and grief are normal life experiences, but one needs to remember that joy is a more deep, desirable and natural experience. With acupuncture, joy can be a significant factor in your life once more. It can also help you start breathe smoother and easier once more.
